Description

Our 1750 Litre Slimline Bunded Oil Tank is rotationally moulded from robust and durable, UV resistant polymer and has been designed for safe and secure, environmentally responsible storage of heating oil, kerosene, diesel, waste oils, water and many other liquids.

A bunded tank uses a tank within a tank design which will protect your oil in the event of the inner tank splitting and will also stop oil from seeping into the surrounding area, causing damage to the environment and resulting in expensive clean-up costs. The liquid is stored in the primary or inner tank and the outer tank forms the required bund with capacity for 110% of the primary tank’s capacity.

The following features come as standard with the tank:

  • 2″ fill point c/w a mechanical overfill prevention device
  • 1″ bottom outlet
  • 4″ inspection lid into the primary tank
  • 18″ lockable Bund lid on the outer tank
  • Vent

This tank comes with a 10 year warranty, if installed by an OFTEC Approved Engineer and subsequently inspected annually by an OFTEC Approved Engineer. All bunded oil tanks should be installed by an OFTEC registered installer in accordance with statutory requirements. We recommend installing on a solid base which extends 300mm all the way around the tank.

Key Features

  • UK manufactured UV resistant polyethylene construction
  • Suitable for storing Heating oil, Kerosene, Diesel and many other liquids.
  • CE and EA compliant.
  • Bunded tank which holds 110% of the internal capacity
  • 10 year warranty
  • Above ground and external use only
  • UV resistant polymer

Optional Extras

Clock Gauge

Simple and reliable, the clock fuel level gauge provides a visual guide to the level of your tank and is located within the lockable manhole lid.

Apollo Ultrasonic Electronic Gauge

Our best selling tank contents gauge is considered to be the industry standard remote level gauge which comprises of a tank mounted transmitter unit and a plug in receiver unit.

The transmitter monitors the level of fuel inside the tank and relays this data via a secure, wireless connection to the receiver unit, which cleverly and conveniently plugs into a standard UK electrical socket.

As deliveries will be made to the "kerb-side" of your delivery address, you will be responsible for moving the tank to the desired location on your property.

Oil Tanks - FAQ's

What is a bunded oil tank?

A bunded tank uses a "tank within a tank" design. The inner tank is used to store the oil which is then enclosed in a secondary container which acts as the bund. The bund will protect your oil in the event of the inner tank splitting and has the ability to hold 110% of the inner tank's contents. They are considered to be the safest way to store heating oil and have become the industry standard with OFTEC installers.

How are your tanks manufactured and what materials are used in their construction?

Our tanks are manufactured in the UK using a process called rotational moulding. This process is a tried and tested construction method which creates consistently strong and durable tanks. The tanks are manufactured using Medium Density Polyethylene (MDPE) which has excellent chemical and impact resistance properties, making it ideal for external fuel storage. Each tank has a high-quality steel inlet and outlet installed to provide years of trouble-free use.

When installed, how is the tank filled with oil?

Each tank is supplied with a 2” BSP Atkinson fill point. This is an industry standard inlet size which all oil suppliers will be able to use to fill your tank. When your oil supplier arrives at your location, they will simply connect their fill pipe to this inlet and dispense the oil into your tank. It provides a safe and secure fill point for your tank.

How can I check and monitor the amount of oil in the tank?

We can supply our tanks with a fill level gauge to allow you to check and monitor the amount of oil in the tank. We offer x2 options; a mechanical clock gauge and an electronic gauge.

The clock gauge is a simple and reliable fill level device which uses a float connected to a level display to indicate the amount of oil left in the tank.

The electronic gauge uses a tank mounted transmitter which relays the level data to a remote receiver. The benefits of this are that you can check the level of your tank remotely from the comfort of your home.

Installation - OFTEC Requirements

Who are OFTEC?

OFTEC establishes the standards for competence within the domestic oil heating and cooking industry. By ensuring the quality of people and businesses working in this area, OFTEC maintains standards for reputable companies and consumers alike.

What is an OFTEC approved installer/engineer?

They are a trained and approved competent person who is approved by OFTEC to install and service domestic and commercial oil tanks. Your oil tank must be installed by an OFTEC engineer and to maintain the 10 year warranty the tank must be inspected every year.

Tank location - OFTEC guidelines

Oil tanks are required to comply with fire separation distances in order to adequately protect the stored fuel from a fire or heat source, that may originate nearby. Tanks should be sited:

  • 1.8m away from non-fire rated eaves of a building
  • 1.8m away from a non-fire rated building or structure (e.g. garden sheds)
  • 1.8m away from openings (such as doors or windows) in a fire rated building or structure (e.g. brick built house/garage)
  • 1.8m away from oil fired appliance flue terminals
  • 760mm away from a non-fire rated boundary such as a wooden boundary fence
  • 600mm away from screening (e.g. trellis and foliage) that does not form part of the boundary

If it is impossible to comply with these requirements, then a fire protection barrier with at least 30 minutes fire rating should be installed, please call us for more details. A minimum separation distance of 100mm is required between the tank and fire-rated barrier.

Tank base and support - OFTEC guidelines

The need to provide a suitable base and support for your oil tank is of paramount importance for reasons of both safety and environmental protection. The base should be:

  • Adequate for the weight of the tank
  • Non-combustible, imperforate and level
  • Constructed of concrete, paving stones or stonework
  • Large enough to extend 300mm beyond all sides of the tank

If an oil storage tank is not adequately supported, the tank itself can be weakened leading to the eventual failure and escape of the stored fuel. During the life of an installation, an oil storage tank base will need to provide continual structural support, even though ground conditions may alter from season to season and year to year.

To comply with British Standards, the base material should be one of the following laid on a hardcore base to give an imperforate base:

  • Concrete at least 100mm thick
  • Paving stones at least 50mm thick
  • Stonework at least 50mm thick

The overall size of the base should be larger than the oil storage tank and any integral oil storage tank bund, so that when the oil storage tank is installed, the base has a clear projection of a minimum of 300mm around all sides of the oil storage tank.
